So, i realized there has been a certain topic lingering around in my thoughts lately, much in need of a rant.
The Prophet alayhi asalam said: “The first matter that the slave will be brought to account for on the Day of Judgment is the prayer. If it is sound, then the rest of his deeds will be sound. And if it is bad, then the rest of his deeds will be bad.”
[Nisaa’, Tirmidhi, and Ibn Majaah]
The root word of salah– صلاة comes from the same roots of silah (connect)- صلة and assel(base)-أصل, also, the word saleen – (which is a part of the back which is involved during ruku’) صلن
Did you know salah is one of the words that was not originally arabic but arabified? cool eh? it was first Hebrew then entered our language. subhanAllah… wallahu’alaim
Anyhoo, the definition of salah/prayer is to make duaa and supplicate. Then you see its connection with similar root words. The meaning of salah, is not only to make duaa and read quran, but in fact it builds a connection (silah) with Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. It is the base principle (أصل) of our deen. Pretty sick eh? Alhamdulilah 🙂
What go me thinking the other day was that, how many people (in general) let their lives revolve around salah, more than salah revolves around their lives. I mean how many times do we find ourselves (generally speaking) squeezing in salah before we go to another thing in our busy lives?
SubhanAllah… the rasool alayhi asalam used salah as a means of break, it brought peace and tranquillity to his heart. I think the more a person learns about salah, the more the person appreciates salah.
I find that the rituals back at home really focus on the ‘revolving life around salah, and not revolving salah around life’. What i mean is that, i find it that we perform our prayers as it is a chore upon us, doing it after we do another task in life.
If you imagine it as a scheduled meeting with someone very important, would you be late? Wouldn’t you be there at least 10 mins early? Wouldn’t you look your best and think of what was going to happen?
This valuable time we have in front of Allah should be cherished. You should be eager for the minute prayer comes in. It shouldn’t be something done without consideration. Our purpose of life is:
Surat alDhariyaat 56. And I (Allâh) created not the jinns and humans except they should worship Me (Alone).
How seriously do we take this purpose of life? Really think about it subhanAllah, how do you prepare for your meeting with Allah these 5 times of day. Is it just something you do before you do something else?
Lets bring back the sunnah! Let your life revolve around prayer, and not the other way around insha’Allah 🙂 Life will be so much nicer insha’Allah
There is a lot to say about salah, i will leave you with these videos inshaAllah 🙂
